"Hidden Heroes" is a program for trainees in geriatric care, particularly those at the beginning of their careers. Through this program, trainees are encouraged to recognise the considerable importance of their profession and to show empathy towards their elderly patients, which increases their motivation for their profession.
Participants in the "Hidden Heroes" program are immersed in the different dimensions of age, giving them a unique opportunity to experience and understand the challenges and joys of ageing.
The programme is divided into three acts.
1. Diversity of ageing: Become aware of the relativity and diversity of ageing, our own personal approach to coping with ageing, and identify and break down stereotypes about "old people.".
2. Empathy—Sneaking into others' shoes: Develop open-mindedness and empathy towards the limitations of old age. Learn how to deal with them and reflect on attitudes and behaviours that can help you communicate and interact with these limitations.
3. Developing a positive identity as a geriatric nurse: Become aware of the consequences of demographic change and reflect on the constraints and stress factors facing geriatric nurses in the present and the future.
The exhibition was realised in collaboration with the Dialogue Social Entreprise team.
